The Rough Road to Purnia

As usual we had to leave early considering the distance 290 Km, but the restaurant served breakfast at 7:00 with slow service making our departure from the hotel at 9:00 am. Considering the distance we needed to travel 290 Km we were told it would take 5 hours to get to Purnia, however considering the road conditions we expected it to be around 8 hours.

As we expected the roads were pretty bad, at times only gravel and sand with big craters which really tested the bikes ability to handle bad roads, I didn't even have time to change the suspension setting from road to off-road.

We reached a point where all the trucks hadstopped, and once we continued we were told that the road is now closed, and will be opened in an hour. We found out that two people were shot the night before, and the bodies ready for burial where laid across the road as a protest.

Once the road cleared we were on our way, the roads started to get better, but the farmers here use one lane to dry their crops, so we reached the hotel by 5:00 pm.

We have been riding nonstop for the past nine days, and it is beginning to affect our response time, therefore we decided to take a break in Siliguri once we reach there tomorrow and spend an extra night in preparation for Bhutan.
